Thalin the Merciless

The man who would become Thalin the Merciless hailed from the Shining Empire. He left home early to apprentice himself with a travelling wizard. His family situation at home was not the best, and the trappings of wizardry seemed to call the young man. But his tutor proved as abusive as his family had been and after a year in his service, Thalin set out on his own - after setting a fire that resulted in the destruction of his mentor's spellbooks.

He bounced around for a few years, steadily perfecting his craft. He was a loner until he met Dartalyn Kinslayer in the northern city of Jum. After a close call with a mutual enemy, the unlikely pair made a blood-oath to bind their fates.



The partnership flourished. As a team they worked well and earned a substantial living as dungeon crawlers and sell swords. They worked with several adventuring companies in the Shining Empire (when working as part of a larger group they seemed to have an uncanny abilty to survive expeditions that resulted in the loss of the rest), but eventually set sail for the Ring Lands.

Thalin is scruffy and powerfully built. His travelling gear bears the scars of battle and the wear of many miles. He carries his Wand of Shocking Grasp at all times and wears Boots of Speed. Thalin enjoys combat and will not hesitate to enter a fray, alternating between his wand and the various touch attack spells that he favors.

Dartalyn Kinslayer

Growing up as a commoner is a difficult life in most societies, but to be low born among the drow is to live a dangerous life. Between the clergy and the nobles, the life of a low born male holds little value. However, young Dartalyn excelled with the sword and took to the life of a mercenary. He earned the title "Kinslayer" when he took a contract with the Kuo Tao against his own city. Eventually his travels brought him to the Lands of Light on surface raids for his new masters and on one such journey, his company was destroyed. He escaped the trap laid by the surface dwellers, but found himself alone and stranded as only the Kuo Toa priests new the secret ways to the Underdark.

He new little of the ways of survival on the surface world, but discovered a teeming city and resolved to make his way there among surrounds that must prove more familiar than the rolling hills. Sheding his armor and weapons, all of which had lost their enchantments, Dartalyn enter the city of Jum carefully disguised. He lost himself among the crowds in the slums where he indeed found life familiar, keeping himself concealed with the rags of a beggar.



He was here that he came to understand the ways of Narajin. The Chaos Lord looked kindly on the drow and honored his service with the gift of divine spells.

Before long, he again took up the path of a mercenary. His reputation grew and he never lacked for employment despite his drow heritage, but he often retreated back to the slums between contracts because it was there he felt most at home. His eventual partnership with Thalin the Merciless prompted the pair to find more lucrative work as dungeon crawlers, but the pair developed a reputation as bad luck to adventuring companies and they eventually travelled to the Realm of Quindia.

Dartalyn is tall for an elf and true to his patron Narajin, he dresses to obfusciate. His tattered and stained cloak disguises his elven build and drow heritage. Also hidden beneath the folds are his Longsword +1 and Darkwood shield. Dartalyn often uses his appearance to advantage in combat, dropping the ragged to disguise to reveal a drow warrior before exploding into action among the startled foe. He carries decades of martial experience and the strength granted by his faith in Chaos.
